Following you have a description of a tour to west and south Iceland with the duration of 9 days and 8 nights.
In this tour you will explore and experience all of the well-known attractions in south and west Iceland. This includes Reykjavik city, Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir and some other hot springs, the National Park at Thingvellir and Skaftafell, the glacier lagoon Jokulsarlon and many more. Everything already organized for your convenience.

A detailed itinerary
Car collected at the international airport of Keflavik (you need to book this, and give us the specifics about your arrival). Hotel check in in Reykjavik. Take an easy, relaxing day in town. You may want to check the comfortable thermal swimming pools that are open all year, or take a walk downtown Reykjavik. You have some buffer time to prepare for the trip that starts tomorrow.

Drive from Reykjavik to the west through the tunnel at Hvalfjordur fjord to West Iceland and to the village Borgarnes. You will drive pass the magnificent Eldborg crater on route to Snaefellsnes peninsula. There it is possible to hike up to the crater. Then you will look around in Hnappadalur.
Then drive towards Snaefellsjokull central volcano. The region at Snaefellsnes has a lot to see both during winter and summer.

Look around at Arnarstapi and Hellnar and other countless natural wonders of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Snaefellsjokull national park.
You will stop at Londrangar, Purkholahraun and Djupalonssandur before driving along the north coast through bustling fishing villages: Rif, Hellisandur, Olafsfjordur, and Grundarfjordur and to Stykkisholmur for accommodation.
Enjoy Stykkisholmur, this nice friendly little town in beautiful surroundings with old houses, museums and a peaceful harbor. It is possible to take a boat tour and sail among the islands where in the summer you can see thriving bird life.
From Stykkisholmur you drive towards Borgarnes and from there to the historic site of Reykholt, Hraunfossar waterfall, Barnafoss waterfall and Deildartunguhver which is the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Head towards Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord). Drive the road around Hvalfjordur and then to Reykjavik for accommodation.
Optional: Ferry to Flatey Island
From Reykjavik you then drive on to Thingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park.
Enjoy the landscape, the history and the wonders of nature where the plates of America and Europe meet and the rift valley is clearly visible. From there you drive to Geysir geothermal field where there are hundreds of hot springs, the old Great Geysir and the well active geysir Strokkur among all the others. From Geysir geothermal field you drive to Gullfoss waterfall and then to Skalholt and to the villages Hella and Hvolsvollur.
Accommodation is offered in a hotel or a guesthouse in the area.
Optional: Snorkeling under the Midnight Sun (May - Aug)
After breakfast you can visit the Saga Museum at Hvolsvollur.
You take the road to Fljotshlid, where you will have very good view to Eyfjafjallajokull central volcano, other central volcanos and glaciers around. From there you drive to Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skogafoss waterfall. At Skogar you can visit an interesting folk museum. From there you go to Solheimajokull glacier where you can take a snowmobile tour if you want. From there you drive to Dyrholaey and to Reynisfjara beach and then to the village Vik. From there the road lies over Myrdalssandur sand with a view up to the volcano Katla that is sleeping nicely under the Myrdalsjokull glacier. You will drive over some glacier rivers and over Eldgjarhraun lava field which is the biggest lava field from historical times in the world (19 cubic meters) and then over to Eldhraun which is the second biggest lava field from historical times in the world (13 cubic meters). You get to the village Kirkjubaejarklaustur which is surrounded with very interesting landscape, there you can have a look at the natural pavement of basalt, called Kirkjugolf which means church floor. You will accommodate at Kirkjubaejarklaustur.
Optional: Snowmobile tour on Myrdalsjokull glacier
You drive east to Foss a Sidu (waterfall) and to Dverghamrar and then to Skeidararsandur. There you will drive over big glacial rivers with a good view up to Vatnajokull glacier seeing Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland’s highest peak and other glaciers there around. Hike in Skaftafell, or take a guided glacier hiking tour; a walk to the edge of Skaftafellsjokull glacier offering great view over Skaftafellsjokull glacier and Svinafellsjokull glacier. From there you drive to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon where you can have a boat tour. Accommodation again at Kirkjubaejarklaustur.

From Kirkjubaejarklaustur you drive west back to Reykjavik with stops here and there according to your own wishes. If you have time you can do some sightseeing and / or shopping in Reykjavik, or check the restaurants. Accommodation in Iceland's pristine capital, Reykjavik.

If your flight schedule allows, you can use this day to head for the famous Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, where you can relax for some time. Or if you have done that on Day 1, you can visit Reykjavik with its many possibilities. Return the car at the international airport of Keflavik, which is very near the Blue Lagoon.
