Here is the classic Ring Road tour around Iceland. It's been planned for 10 days and 9 nights. This tour gives you plenty of time to cover all the major attractions that Iceland has to offer when driving on the ring road. But not only that - you'll be able to get off that road to see Dettifoss waterfall, and Husavik cozy town in the north.
This tour brings you along the Ring Road (the main national road) with some loops out of it. You'll see Reykjavik city, do the Golden Circle, see hot springs, volcano Eyjafjallajokull and Skaftafell nature resort in Vatnajokull National Park, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, the East Fjords, impressive Dettifoss waterfall, Akureyri town, and much more. Everything already organized for your convenience.

Visit the Blue Lagoon
Car collect at the international airport of Keflavik (you'll need to book this, and give us the specifics about your flight). Drive the Reykjanes peninsula is the southwestern most point of Iceland and also the youngest part of the country. The North Atlantic ridge comes ashore there and visible signs of volcanic activity can be seen all over the peninsula because of the ridge. Lava fields, lava tubes, rifts and hot springs can be found in a number of locations.
On the way to Reykjavik, you can have a relaxing time in the Blue lagoon spa. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most unique and popular attractions. Guests enjoy bathing and relaxing in Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin. A visit to the spa promotes harmony between body, mind and spirit, and enables one to soak away the stresses of modern life. The spa’s guests rekindle their relationship with nature, soak up the scenic beauty and enjoy breathing the clean, fresh air.
After the Blue lagoon you drive to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, where you will have accommodation for the first night.

The Golden Circle
Drive to Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. Enjoy the landscape, the history and the wonders of nature where the plates of America and Europe meet and the rift valley is clearly visible. From there you drive to the famous Geysir hot-spring area. Take a look at the Great Geysir, but this area is a great place to see geysers in action although Geysir is not active nowadays, Strokkur will surely be. Don’t miss the mighty Gullfoss waterfall which is in a five minutes’ drive. You spend the night in the area.

After breakfast you drive south-east to the villages Hella and Hvolsvollur and visit the Saga Museum at Hvolsvollur. From there you take the road to Fljotshlid, where you can have a very good view to Eyfjafjallajokull central volcano and other central volcanoes and glaciers around. From there you drive to the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Take a walk behind Seljalandsfoss and enjoy the power and mighty of Skogafoss. At Skogar you can visit a nice folk museum. From there you go to Solheimajokull glacier, an outlet glacier from Myrdalsjokull glacier - there you can go snowmobiling. From there you drive to Reynisfjara beach and then to the village Vik. From there you drive east over Myrdalssandur sand with a view up to the volcano Katla that is sleeping nicely under the Myrdalsjokull glacier. On the way you drive over some glacier rivers and over Eldgjarhraun lava field which is the biggest lava field from historical times in the world (19 cubic meters) and then over to Eldhraun which is the second biggest lava field from historical times in the world (13 cubic meters). You will get to the village Kirkjubaejarklaustur, situated in a very interesting landscape. There you can have a look at the specific columnar formation Kirkjugolf.

Skaftafell in Vatnajokull National Park & Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
From Kirkjubaejarklaustur you will drive to Foss a Sidu (waterfall) and to Dverghamrar and then to Skeidararsandur. There you will drive over big glacial rivers with a good view up to Vatnajokull glacier seeing Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland’s highest peak and other glaciers there around. Hike in Skaftafell, or take a glacier hiking tour with a guide, a walk to the edge of Skaftafellsjokull glacier that offers a view to Skaftafellsjokull glacier and Svinafellsjokull glacier. From there you drive to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon where you can have a boat tour. Accommodation is offered close to Hofn in Hornafjordur.

The East Fjords
On this day you drive through the spectacular East Fjords with towering mountains and charming fishing villages to the fertile Egilsstadir area. On the way from town Hofn in Hornafjordur you drive up north the east fjords, stopping here and there, like in the villages Djupivogur, Breiddalsvik, Stodvarfjordur, Faskrudsfjordur and Reydarfjordur. You drive around Lagarfljot lake where you stop at both historical places and places with special nature. Accommodation is offered in the area near Egilsstadir.
Dettifoss waterfall and Myvatn
From Egilsstadir continue driving the national ring road and turn away from it to see magnificent waterfall Dettifoss. After enjoying these mighty falls turn around, back on the ring road.
Before reaching Myvatn you come across the hot spring area of Namaskard (Hverarond), and Krafla geothermal power station, where you can also see the crater lake Viti. It's very nice to see the colorful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and Krafla volcanic area.

Lake Myvatn and Husavik
Lake Myvatn and its surrounding area is a place where you could spend a life time. Some of its unique attractions are Dimmuborgir and the pseudo craters at Skutustadir. Do not miss Hverfjall (also known as Hverfell) which is a tephra cone or tuff ring volcano. Its crater is approximately 1 km in diameter and it's a very easy hike to the rim (with a great view of the whole area).
Take a look at Grjotagja, a small lava cave with a thermal spring inside. The water is about 42°C. The nearby lava cave of Storagja is also being used as a bathing site. Or if you want it a little bit more sophisticated, try the geothermal spa at Jardbodin Geothermal Spa. Drive then to the cozy town of Husavik for accommodation.
North Iceland and Akureyri
You can take a whale watching tour from Husavik in the morning. From Husavik you drive to Godafoss waterfall before continuing to the town of Akureyri. West Iceland to Reykjavik
When driving south through Borgarfjordur there are a lot of places worth visiting like the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, and Iceland´s largest natural hot spring, Deildartunguhver. Take the road via Hvalfjordur fjord to Reykjavik. Hvalfjordur (fjord of whale) is a long fjord, peaceful with beautiful nature.

Depending on your departure time you can use this day to explore the capital. You go for a sightseeing tour in and around Reykjavik. Try the thermal swimming pools, or go for a walk downtown. Maybe you'd like to seize the chance to hit the mall for some final shopping, or go savor the local cuisine in one of the capital's many restaurants. Reykjavik has many museums and galleries worth visiting or drive straight to the airport if you have an early morning flight.
Return the car at the international airport of Keflavik.
