Here's a splendid 13-day tour around Iceland with 12 nights of accommodation (if booked). This tour gives you plenty of time to cover most of the attractions that the island has to offer when driving along the Ring Road. Besides that you will even get to drive some loops out of the Ring Road into the highland in the north east where you see stunning features of nature, such as volcano Askja and the area of Herdubreidarlindir; drive to Sneafellsnes peninsula´s picturesque landscape and even to the beautiful Borgarfjordur area. Everything already organized for your convenience.

Car collect at the international airport of Keflavik (you'll need to book this, and give us the specifics about your flight). Drive the Reykjanes peninsula is the southwestern most point of Iceland and also the youngest part of the country. The North Atlantic ridge comes ashore there and visible signs of volcanic activity can be seen all over the peninsula because of the ridge. Lava fields, lava tubes, rifts and hot springs can be found in a number of locations.
On the way to Reykjavik, you can have a relaxing time in the Blue lagoon spa. The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most unique and popular attractions. Guests enjoy bathing and relaxing in Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater, known for its positive effects on the skin. A visit to the spa promotes harmony between body, mind and spirit, and enables one to soak away the stresses of modern life. The spa’s guests rekindle their relationship with nature, soak up the scenic beauty and enjoy breathing the clean, fresh air.
After the Blue lagoon you drive to the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik, where you will have accommodation for the first night.

The Golden Circle
Drive to Thingvellir National Park, site of the ancient Icelandic parliament. Enjoy the landscape, the history and the wonders of nature where the plates of America and Europe meet and the rift valley is clearly visible. From there you drive to the famous Geysir hot-spring area. Take a look at the Great Geysir, but this area is a great place to see geysers in action although Geysir is not active nowadays, Strokkur will surely be. Don’t miss the mighty Gullfoss waterfall which is in a five minutes’ drive. You spend the night in the area.

After breakfast you drive south-east to the villages Hella and Hvolsvollur and visit the Saga Museum at Hvolsvollur. From there you take the road to Fljotshlid, where you can have a very good view to Eyfjafjallajokull central volcano and other central volcanoes and glaciers around. From there you drive to the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. Take a walk behind Seljalandsfoss and enjoy the power and mighty of Skogafoss. At Skogar you can visit a nice folk museum. From there you go to Solheimajokull glacier, an outlet glacier from Myrdalsjokull glacier - there you can go snowmobiling. From there you drive to Reynisfjara beach and then to the village Vik. From there you drive east over Myrdalssandur sand with a view up to the volcano Katla that is sleeping nicely under the Myrdalsjokull glacier. On the way you drive over some glacier rivers and over Eldgjarhraun lava field which is the biggest lava field from historical times in the world (19 cubic meters) and then over to Eldhraun which is the second biggest lava field from historical times in the world (13 cubic meters). You will get to the village Kirkjubaejarklaustur, situated in a very interesting landscape. There you can have a look at the columnar basalt formation Kirkjugolf.

Skaftafell in Vatnajokull National Park and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
From Kirkjubaejarklaustur you will drive to Foss a Sidu (waterfall) and to Dverghamrar and then to Skeidararsandur. There you will drive over big glacial rivers with a good view up to Vatnajokull glacier seeing Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland’s highest peak and other glaciers there around. Hike in Skaftafell, or take a glacier hiking tour with a guide, a walk to the edge of Skaftafellsjokull glacier that offers a view to Skaftafellsjokull glacier and Svinafellsjokull glacier. From there you drive to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon where you can have a boat tour. Accommodation is offered close to Hofn in Hornafjordur.

On this day you drive through the spectacular East Fjords with towering mountains and charming fishing villages to the fertile Egilsstadir area. On the way from town Hofn in Hornafjordur you drive up north the east fjords, stopping here and there, like in the villages Djupivogur, Breiddalsvik, Stodvarfjordur, Faskrudsfjordur and Reydarfjordur. You drive around Lagarfljot lake where you stop at both historical places and places with special nature. Accommodation is offered in the area near Egilsstadir.
Askja and the North East Highland
Wake up early because you have a long day for driving. You drive to the mountains Upptyppingar and Askja where you will experience a unique nature, caused by volcano eruptions. You hike to Oskuvatn Lake and the crater Viti where you can even take a bath, but be careful about that water can be hotter here and there in this unique natural pool. From there you drive to Herdubreidarlindir and north to Myvatn for accommodation.
Explore the highlights of Lake Myvatn and surrounding area with unique attractions such as Dimmuborgir, the pseudo craters at Skutustadir, the colorful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and Krafla volcanic area. You can take a bath in Grjotagja or even in the geothermal spa at Jardbodin.

Jokulsargljufur National Park
From Lake Myvatn you drive to the geothermal area at Hverarond (Namaskard) and Krafla and then to Iceland’s major waterfalls in Jokulsargljufur national park: Dettifoss waterfall, Hafragilsfoss waterfall, Rettarfoss waterfall, Vigabjargsfoss waterfall, Holmatungur, Hljodaklettar and Asbyrgi. Then you drive around Tjornes to the town of Husavik for accommodation.
Optional: Whale watching from Husavik (Apr - Oct)
North Iceland and Akureyri
You can go to a whale watching tour from Husavik in the morning. From Husavik you drive to Godafoss waterfall before continuing to the town of Akureyri. Spend the day exploring Akureyri, the capital of the North and its surrounding area. From Akureyri you drive west to the horse-breeding valley of the Skagafjordur fjord. Accommodation is offered in Skagafjordur.

North West Iceland
From Skagafjordur fjord, you continue to the shores of the Hunafloi bay, an area with a great deal of history and lot of interesting places such as Borgarvirki, Hvitserkur and many more. Then you drive to the small village Bordeyri and take the road 59 to Budardalur village and from there to the town of Stykkisholmur which is a nice friendly little town in beautiful surroundings with old houses and a peaceful harbor. Accommodation is offered in Stykkisholmur.
Optional: Ferry to Flatey island, from Stykkisholmur (May - Aug)
Explore Dalir, the region of the Viking Eric the Red, before driving to Snaefellsnes peninsula with countless wonders such as the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur and Arnarstapi sea cliffs
Take a hike in Snaefellsjokull glacier National Park - to Snaefellsjokull glacier or Saxholl, and visit places like Djupalon, Dritvik, Londrangar, Hellnar, Arnarstapi, Budahraun and Budir. Continue to the Borgarfjordur area, take a look at Reykholt historical place.

West Iceland to Reykjavik
When driving south through Borgarfjordur there are a lot of places worth visiting like the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, and Iceland´s largest natural hot spring, Deildartunguhver. Take the road via Hvalfjordur fjord to Reykjavik. Hvalfjordur (fjord of whale) is a long fjord, peaceful with beautiful nature.
Explore Reykjavik in the evening.
If your flight schedule allows, you can use this day to head for the famous Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, where you can relax for some time. Or if you have done that on Day 1, you can visit Reykjavik with its many possibilities. Return the car at the international airport of Keflavik, which is very near the Blue Lagoon.
